Fourth in the series, but not necessary to read in order. Jason Lynx is at loose ends, not wanting to get involved in anything when an old college friend asks for his help finding the murderer of his brother. As in many of Tepper's mysteries, the victim is someone who might "deserve" to be killed, a person so nasty no one is going to miss them. Nonetheless, Jason enjoys puzzles and he gets involved in this one very quickly. Liked the Santa Fe setting and how Jason unravels the puzzle. Once again with Tepper, if you are a reader who needs the murderer to be brought to justice, you'll be disappointed. A side puzzle for me is how Jason manages to so easily travel with both an enormous cat and an equally enormous dog - I'd need a minivan and personal support staff.
