I thought that this book was written by Nicole Jordan but I think I have the author wrong after looking through her book list.
There were two books and I believe that they were written by the same author. Usually, if I read one good book then I tend to read other books by that author but I may be wrong in this case.
Book # 1
Heroine is the daughter of a scholar. She sells all of his books and then pickpockets to obtain money so that she can buy the books back. The hero catches her in the act and then attempts to drag her into a plot of revenge. The heroine is remarkably beautiful and he wants her to pose as his fiancee/mistress. She declines but the hero tricks her out to the country; they spend a night together and she dreams that they have sex. Turns out that they did and she agrees to his plan for the season. The hero was one of three sons to a Duke; he believed that he had killed his older brother so he ran away at a young age. His other brother was actually the cause of the death and he went on to inherit the title. The hero wants to embarrass his brother, expose him as a murderer and wife beater, and then claim the title. He wants the heroine to lure his brother into an affair in order to get a ring that proves he is the heir. They fall in love but then the heroine learns that the hero had actually drugged her the night that they had sex.
Book # 2
Heroine is the sister of an earl. Her brother neglects her and spends all of their inheritence in London. He involves himself in a bet and loses their home. Instead of facing the consequences, he goes out to the garden and commits suicide. The hero was the one who won the house and he goes to the country to inform the sister of her brother's death. He offers to marry her so that she would not have to leave her home but she initially wants to stay with distant family. Over time, she agrees to marry him but then she learns that he planned the whole card game with the intention of getting to her. Her brother had been behind the death of his sister and he wanted revenge by claiming the dead guy's sister.
I believe that book #2 was recently published where as book # 1 was published some years ago. Any help would be appreciated!
