I only just saw this. I suggest typing in the titles of all his favorite Sunday comics and see what you get. That's how we found Fox Trot books, and many others.

Calvin and Hobbes is a household favorite. My daughter also loves comics and she reads Fox Trot too.

I have an 11 year old boy.  His favorite genre is humor.  He prefers the graphic novel (like the comic books) I prefer he read "real" stuff, but what can I do, at least he is reading!  His favorite series of books is the Bones series.  It is a comic book type, there are something like 9 in the series, it stars a (I want to say cow) and an animal I have yet not identified.  There is a prequel to the series, I think it is called Rose.  Hope this helps!  If he likes graphic novels and they can be more drama than comedy, both my boys really liked the Amulet series.
