I have the following two books that I will send out 2 for 1

Before: Short Stories About Pregnancy From Our Top Writers

Book Description:
As contemporary parenting relationships now encompass such a broad array of forms and guises, the experience of pregnancy includes more emotional, professional, and interpersonal challenges than ever before. Mothers and fathers now face the usual anxieties about difficult pregnancies, financial planning, and the inevitable Lamaze classes, alongside new worries about balancing the professional and artistic goals of two independent parents with the responsibilities of parenthood, struggles with fertility and modern fertility treatments, and explaining a pregnancy of an untraditional couple--or a single woman--to family and friends.
In this groundbreaking anthology of short fiction from America's most popular and critically-acclaimed young writer's, editors Emily Franklin and Heather Swain give voice to the fear, frustration, hope and humor that all play a part in the simultaneously unique and timeless experience of pregnancy in twenty-first-century America.

I see this book is available here at PBS. I cannot recommend any other baby book as highly as this one. My wife and I used an earlier edition to help us raise 3 kids - we received it a shower gift. There are no "-isms" in this book. It is written by a British nurse and is a straightforward, down-to-earth chronicle of how you can expect your baby to behave and develop as it grows, and tells you how to deal with the myriad of issues and questions first-time parents invariably have. I can't tell you how "right on" her development steps were and howw many times both my wife and exclaimed to each other, "Look, the baby is doing EXACTLY what the book said!" I feel so strongly about this being the best book, that I have given it numberless times to other first-time friends when they became parents  (and now their kids are having babies and I'm giving them as shower gifts.) I know this is not exactly what you asked, but I thought I would share this with you. I wish your friend the best.

I have a hard cover copy of Babyhood on my shelf by Paul Reiser (from NBC's Mad About You) and will do a 3 for 2 deal if you can find 2 other paperbacks that interest you. It's a pretty ecclectic shelf and most all the scholastic children's books are brand new.  Have a great night and good luck finding what you're looking for, Becky
