newer john saul books are pretty good , with twist and ect.

Wrath James White, Bentley Little, and R. Patrick Gates might fit the bill. RPG's Tunnelvision, Grimm Reapings and Grimm Memorials are three of his best, imho. The first 2 are available in the system right now.
