We are moving with the military and I have found the website that tells what a child should know by a certain timeframe in the school year and I was wondering if anyone knew of any good things/sites that I could use besides excel to make a list /chart of the things that the kids are supposed to know so that I can mark off what they do know and what we need to work on? For example, here is a small portion of what they would need to know as far as computers/technical goes by the time that they are in second grade and I would like to make a chart so we know where we stand-
The student will demonstrate knowledge of the nature and operation of technology systems.
• Identify the computer as a machine that helps people at school, work, and play.
• Use technology to demonstrate the ability to perform a variety of tasks; among them turning on and off a computer, starting and closing programs, saving work, creating folders, using pull-down menus, closing windows, dragging objects, and responding to commands.

If you go to state Department of Education websites, and look for their Benchmarks and Standards, you can get a really good idea of what is taught at each level.  For example, I teach in Florida, so if you go to http://www.fldoe.org/bii/curriculum/sss/ you can get our state standards.

Yes, I got that, and because I have two kids that I need to check, was looking for somewhere to do like an assesment/check list or something to be able to note what they already know and then know what they dont so that we can work with them.

The books you are searching for are by E.D. Hirsch.

What your _____ grader needs to know.  They start at pre-school and go to 6th grade.  There is also a Children's Dictionary of Cultural Literacy that helps as a reference.

The supplemental material is on the Core Knowledge Foundation website.  That will keep you busy for a very long time!

Seems like an excel sheet would be the best way.  Maybe only list the ones that they need to work on?
