Every summer my teen daughter and I travel to remote areas of Latin America and bring suitcases loaded wih children's books written in Spanish. These are precious commodities and they are carried great distances via unique methods--donkeys, banana boat, llamas--to be treasured by so many. However, it has been almost impossible for us to find any novels for teens or young adults (even Harlequin romances)l, and we feel badly, when a 16- or 17- year old comes to us and shyly asks for any reading material. (The last item we had was in 2007, it was a Spanish (from Spain) version of Seventeen magazine my daughter picked up in the Miami airport...it traveled with us all the way to a tiny village in the Sacred Valley (Andes) of Peru, where the brightest girl in the village was awarded it as a "prize" for her studiousness. The following year we learned that the magazine had been passed around the entire village and had moved onwards to Lake Titicaca area, and from there, to the highlands of Bolivia. If you have any sources or know of anyone who sells Spanish paperbacks cheaply or by the lot, let me know....Thanks!
