I just finished reading "As Always, Jack" by Emma Sweeney (ISBN 0316738719) a collection of letters written just after the end of World War II. I will quote from the back of the book "The discovery of a cache of letters -- written just after World War II by a young navy pilot from Texas to the California girl with whom he had fallen in love -- becomes a grown daughter's introduction to the man who died before she was born, the father she never knew. Unique in its poignant details, yet universal in its depiction of the passions and fears of wartime, As Always, Jack is a love story that sears the heart."
I was just charmed by this book, and the personality of Jack, the writer of the letters! He is warm and funny, and I just couldn't help falling in love with him as I read his love letters to his wife-to-be. And it is always so wonderful to be touched by something real, this is not fiction. It is a quick read, 179 pages, digested in one several hour sitting, because I just couldn't tear myself away from this book. I recommend this book highly and hope other members enjoy it as much as I did!
