My 14 yr old daughter has gotten into liking vampire type books.  I would prefer nothing really gorry (sp?) or scary as I am not sure if she is ready for that type yet.  She likes Vampire Diaries and the Twighlight series.  Can anyone recommend anything else of this type?

You may find more help in the young adult forum. The only one I can think of is morganville vampires but I'm pretty sure that is a little old for her. I'm sure there are others but I'm drawing a blank.

The Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris are really good. Also, I've heard awesome things about the House of Night series by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast.

My 13yo likes the House of Night, and they are pretty clean, with good lessons.

Sunshine by Robin McKinley.  It features a strong female protagonist who is very human -- she has typical fears and weaknesses and works to overcome them.  This one is not specifically geared toward the pre-teen crowd, but McKinley's won several Newbury awards with other titles that were.  This was one of my favorite reads last year.
