Recommended to me so I have never read them and would like to dive into them. Please PM me. Thanks!

Also looking for end of the world types of books kind of like my recent read of "Alas, Babylon".

Looking for reccomendations as well. (Requested "I Am Legend" just now :D)

Here's a couple of recommendations for end-of-the-world stories:

"Earth Abides" by George Stewart

"The Road" by Cormac McCarthy

"A Canticle For Leibowitz" by Walter Miller

I actually have a fairly long list of post-apocalyptic books, but the type of story varies quite a bit.  The three above (along with "Alas, Babylon") are among the first you'll hear recommended for this type of book.

I'm in line for the first two. I'll look up the last one and see what it's about :D

Thanks for the recommendation!

Good post-apocalyptic novels, broken down by agent of apocalypse:

Nuclear war

  • Alas, Babylon
  • A Canticle For Leibowitz
  • The Postman (David Brin) - MUCH better than the movie. The plot is completely different.
  • Triumph (Philip Wylie, 1963) - Last US survivors deep in a mountain bomb shelter
  • On the Beach (Nevile Shute) -  considered a classic by most, not my favorite, but recommended

  • Earth Abides - classic
  • The Stand (Stephen King) - Very long, but great character development, and some of the most realistic ideas of what "survivors walking around" would encounter. Also some great "rebuilding sociecty" concepts. And of course, the supernatural.

Asteroid Strike

  • Lucifer's Hammer (Niven & Pournelle) - Takes a while to get to the Big Bang, but worth it for the aftermath. Very satisfying.

  • Day of the Triffids (John Wyndham, 1951) - My favorite mid-century sci-fi author. London survivors of an event that blinds 99% of the world's populaion. Also highly recommend his other books "The Kraken Wakes" and "The Midwich Cuckoos".
