I'm halfway through the 1rst book and I'm having a hard time:( I REALLY want to love these books and I know many of you have said you adore them..... I find the heroine Ashlyn sort of annoying and she and Maddox lack chemistry imo. I thought I might like it about a 1/3 way through but now its just sort of droning on.... Hmm,.... I have all 3 so I'm going to try and stick it out. Any words of encouragement lol?

I read the first one and also have the other two waiting.  I heard from some people in this forum that the next two are much better.

Oh I hope so lol. I'm starting to think maybe I'm just not a Showalter fan because I HATED the first Atlantis book - couldn't even finish it. I find the relationship between Maddox and Ashlyn in the first  LOU series just sort of shallow - lacking chemistry. I like the premise and the warriors are very interesting so I think it has potential. I going to try and get through this first one and hope that number 2 is better.

I love Showalter's books and thought Heart of the Dragon was one of her best.  The first LOU, no so much.  Maybe I was in the wrong mindset when I read it because it seemed laughably ridiculous.  I agree there was something wrong with the character development and Maddox and Ashlyn didn't really strike me as having much of a connection -- well, other than the obvious.  The characters confused me too, I couldn't keep the different Lords names and curses straight.  I forced myself through it because I have the next two books in the series and I'm really hoping the 2nd is a lot better!

I loved LOTU, but then again, I like Gena Showalter. The third book was my favorite, but if you really don't like the first, I'm not so sure that the other two are going to do it for you either. I fell in love with the men. The heroines in the first and second books were a bit annoying, I admit.

I'm reading Alyssa Day's Atlantis series now. I was hoping it would be similar to LOTU, but it's so b-movie cheesy, that I don't think I can finish it.

I just can't seem to find anything as great as J.R.Ward's Brothers or Kresley Cole's IAD series. I've actually been reading Shannon McKenna - not paranormal I know lol - but she can sure write - and soooo HOT!!! I also really liked the Darkyn series for the most part and Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series. I don't know I HATED Heart of the Dragon - that was the first Atlantis book right? I couldn't stand the heroine and thought the relationship just didn't build any tension - I know different strokes for different folks right lol. I'm going to keep at it...

I love Gena Showalter, but I was disappointed in the first lords book. The next 2 are much better, but not as good as the rest of her books IMO

I thought they were okay.  As others have said, I liked the last two better than the first.  All the heroines annoyed me to some degree.  I liked Anya, the heroine of the second book the best, though all of the heroines seemed somewhat childish to me.

I love those books, but the 2nd book is, to me, the best.

I cannot say that any of them are truly "great" reads--great meaning I cannot put t down. But i really love the idea that she has created. I hope she writes one for Gideon!!!

I liked the idea for the books, the characters, etc. but I have to say I had to almost force myself to finish them.  Definitely not a page-turner.  Her atlantis books are much better reads IMO.

I am starting on the second book tonight (thanks Margaret, sorry you didn't like them). I cannot wait!!!

I love love love the BDB series and have just about decided that there are no other men for me (V, oh yum). That being said I find the sex scenes in LOTU to be steamer than the ones in BDB. Go figure.

The thing I like most about these books is that the chacters aren't important to me. They are just books I can get lost in for a little while, I'm not consumed by the NEED to read. I am finding I have the same feeling towards Feehan's Carpathians series.

Maybe I really am in love with V! LOL

I just finished the first Lords of the Underworld book and really liked it.   Not quite getting how anybody could say there was no chemistry between Maddox and Ashlyn because it was there from the beginning  - literally.  They practically sparked when they touched each other.   Now, if this had been anything but a paranormal I would have laughed at that and found it hokey.  But in a paranormal instant attraction like that is great!   And I liked the unique concept - not vampires, not werewolves, but warriors cursed to carry the evils of the world inside them - that's different!   The only character that bothered me a little was Anya, and I think that was because her character wasn't really developed - they just stuck her in at the end of the book.

I've got the next two books on my TBR, so am glad to hear most people say that they are even better :-)

Lynne, you get to know Anya more in the next book. She's one of my favorite characters!

If you like the change-up on not vampire/werewolf, I would recommend Jacquelyn Frank's Nightwalker Series. It's an interesting world revolving around the Nightwalker species, Demons. They are several species of Nightwalkers which makes for some interesting new plots.

I really like this series! My favorite is the one with Lucien and Anya, which is just wicked! And, I don't know why, but I really dig the whole two different eye colors that Lucien has going on. Add that to his tattoo and you have one hot guy!

I really liked this series as well.  Lucien and Anya was my favorite one.  Awesome book.  I was a little disappointed with Reyes' story.  I like his character a lot, but I thought it could have been better.  I still love the series tho.

OK, Just finished the second book with Lucien and Anya.  And yes, it was better than the first one!  And I liked the first one so that makes this one REALLY good.  I agree, the fact that Lucien's eyes were two different colors was sooooo hot.   I kept flipping to the cover just to ogle him LOL.

I do wish that they had gotten some of his scars onto the cover picture, though.  That would have made him even sexier :-)

For some reason I'm not looking forward to Reyes story much.   From the glimpses that the author has given us of Danica, I don't like her much.  Don't know why.

Lucien and Anya are definitely my favorite couple of the three.
