She studied at Durham Hill School for girls and Le Manoir on the shores of Lake Geneva, Switzerland. She obtained her B.A. at Durham University. After getting married and giving birth to daughter Vicky, Hill played the organ and ran Sunday School.
She started writing accidentally, when her about 10-year-old daughter took one of her books to school. She continued writing and eventually wrote eight books about Marjorie & Co, all of which she illustrated herself. The books were officially published in 1948.Vicky was also the reason for the A Dream of Sadler's Wells' series - to be created, because Hill missed her a lot after she had left for Sadler Wells ballet school (now the Royal Ballet School) in London. In mid-1960s she was asked to write a biography on dancer Marie Taglioni. This became La Sylphide. Two adult novels followed in 1978 but Lorna stopped writing following a series of serious operations.
