Hi,

I have been a member for about 2 years and I was looking at my account and found over those 2 years and 255+ transactions I had about 9 lost books. I find that amount a bit disturbing. I spoke with my local post office and of course they can't say much about media mail but I am friends with my post-person so I let her know when I am expecting a book.

Is this a lot for my club status? Is there some kind of average they club sees lost in the mail?

Thanks,

Joe

Remember that "lost transactions" would include transactions where the book was never mailed.  I've received just over 200, and 5 of those are lost, but for some (most?) of those, the sender said he or she forgot to mail the book.  I've mailed maybe 230, and none of those have gone lost, although one or two took a tour of the continent before settling down in their destination.

From me: I had two lost in 2006.

To me: I had four lost (as of today) in 2007 - two in October, two in November.

I've sent out close to 200 books and I haven't had one go lost yet.  I had one that I requested go lost but it was because the person marked it mailed and then forgot to mail the book.  She pm'd me though and mailed the book 1st class and it was only a week late. Not a big deal.  I've had several books I've mailed take almost the alotted time to get to their new homes.  But none ever went lost.

I have no idea about what the "averages" are, but IIRC, I have had two multiple book orders go lost to me (5 books and 2 books), and one single book order - total, 8 books.

I have also had two multiple book orders that I sent "go lost" (both 2 books each) - total 4.

I have sent 527 and received 669 books.

I've been a member for 2 1/2 years now.

I've received 573 books and there are 10 in my transactions page that are marked lost.  But 1 of them was from the very beginning and was destroyed by USPS.  That was when R&R would refund credits and they must have marked it lost to make it work in the system.  Another is a book that the sender accidently sent to someone else and it never got to me.  So technically I've had 8 books get lost on the way to me.

1 lost in 2005 (this was the damaged one)

4 lost in 2006 (April, June, & July, the other was the misdirected one)

5 lost in 2007 (March, April, April, October, November)

I've mailed 378 books and only 1 has gone lost and that was in August 2006.

I've been a member for a little over 2 years.  I have total transactions of about 750, about ten of which were lost books.

I have had 3 packages go lost coming to me.  One I got an empty envelope, but no book.  One other one, in Oct, was a package of 3 books.  None of the ones I've mailed have gone lost, knock on wood.

I've been a member since July, and I've recieved 80 books, with one having gone lost.  I did have 2 books show up a couple of weeks after the lost date though.

I've mailed 277 books, with 3 having gone lost, but one of those shows that it was delivered on the delivery confirmation, and the still active member never responded to my PM.  Of the other two, one never got scanned in anywhere, and the other seems to be stuck at some intermediate point.

I've been a member almost two years, my wife was a member before that, and between the two of us, we've mailed about 300 books and have not had one be lost. Yet.

We've received about 300 books, with 4 lost, but honestly, I believe 3 of the 4 were never mailed (accounts were closed or inactive when we went to PM the sender).

I've got my fingers crossed here, having mailed yesterday a hardcover that was too heavy for First Class, and I know I'll have a knot in my gut over it until it arrives. I have not used PBS postage or delivery confirmation in the past, but I'm starting to rethink that.

hmm, ok well I guess since my mail person is aware of the situation I won't get too worried.

Thanks for all the feedback!

I just joined about two months ago and am having a big problem with this.  Ive mailed out about 30 books and have sent all with USPS delivery confirmations.  I've had 3 listed as "lost in the mail"  I find this so frustrating considering the fact that my delivery confirmations show they were in fact received.  I've also had about 7 books not marked received for over 2 weeks after the delivery confirmations show they were received.  In the future I guess I'll be using PBS's dc's so I am not out because someone forgets to mark the books received.
