I don't know what's going on with the PO, but a book I sent is marked delivered according to DC, but the member's saying he never got it.

Meanwhile, a book someone sent me with DC has been stuck in Philly since 9/5, I'm starting to think I'm never going to see it.

Is this coincidence that these are both happening at the same time, or are the lost books becoming epidemic?

A week or so ago I received something with DC that I'm assuming was scanned as delivered.  Not only was it not for me, it was not even for someone on my street!  This was a Saturday, so they had to wait for me to put it back out in my mailbox on Monday for redelivery.  SO even though this package was scanned delivered on Sat., it didn't get to its rightful owner until at least Tuesday!!

Per the Help Center:

USPS sometimes scans a package as "Delivered" when it reaches the requestor's local Post office

  • there may be a few days' delay before the package reaches the destination address.
  • If your package has been scanned as Delivered and has not been marked received a week later, please contact the requestor first using the PM button on the transaction.  If she or he does not respond to your PM within 3 or 4 days, please contact us, and we will look into it.

So, it may be that he truly hasn't received it yet, not that it has gone lost.  The Labor Day holiday and hurricanes have impacted mail delivery all over, and the DC system was down for maintenance this weekend; those may be factors as well.

Cheers,

Catt

I've noticed that mail has been very slow lately.

I have a DVD from swapadvd about to go lost.

I've had one book enroute to me go lost.  They used DC.  It still shows only when it was purchased and not that it was scanned anywhere.  It was coming from Louisianna. So I don't know if wasn't mailed because of the weather of it was mailed but the weather problems have slowed the delivery. I'm waiting to reorder it though just incase it showed up.  I did PM the sender but I haven't heard anything.  If they hadn't used DC and it wasn't coming from a bad weather state-I'd just reorder the book.

I have a couple others that are taking a long time but they didn't use DC so I can't tell where they are.

ETA:  On the other side-International mail is moving pretty fast.  I belong to another book site and mailed 4 International book requests 2 wks ago.  1 to France, 1 to Romania, 1 to Englad and 1 to Cyprus.  All of them were received within a week.  But the book coming to me from NV is taking nearly a month.

I had a lost book turn up 4 months later. So don't worry about it. It will eventually show up

I got an empty package in the mail on Saturday. It says it was received without contents. But the end of the package looks like it was slit with a knife. It was two books too. :( Stupid USPS.

Same here.  I'm waiting on a book from southern Minnesota to North-east Nebraska.. sent the 26th of August, supposedly been at my home for something like 12 or 13 days now it says but I've not seen it.  On another site I sent a book nearly a month ago now and still nothing.  I too am thinking it must be the hurricanes and Labor Day doing it, at least that's what I'm hoping is doing it.

Weird.  It's been really fast for me.  I sent 3 books Media Mail on the 8th.  All 3 got to their destinations by the 10th.  1 within the same state, 2 out of state.  No problems here.

I just found out this morning that I had my very first book to go lost  :-(    I mailed it to FL, so I am holding hope that it has just been held up because of the weather.

I've only had one book go missing.  It was sent on April 27 from CA and seems to have stalled out in GA.  I keep hoping it will turn up, as it was the only copy in the system, it's out of print and hard to find.

I've had a couple of books declared lost en route to me lately and 2 more are on the borderline.  I know the weather is paying havoc with deliveries. But also there's a bigger push on the USPS people to get out more mail in fewer trips because of the fuel costs.  I'm expecting that media mail is being shoved back in favor of the Priority and First Class mail.  It's probably a big strain on the system.

Elizabeth -

This doesn't apply, as I've the member initiated contact with me and has talked to his post office, and the PO says  it was delivered.  So someone got it, we just have no idea who at this point.

I get my credit either way, right?  This is my first book to go missing.

I was waiting for a book two weeks ago that was marked delivered on DC but I had not received.  I waited 3 days and then finally received it.   So, it does happen that the PO marks it delivered before it is delivered.  On the other hand, it could have been misdelivered and marked at that time.

On the sending side, I have had several books "aged" at the PO lately.  I mail them and it takes 4 to 5 days before they are first scanned at the regional mail processing center.  In the past, this lag was 1 to 2 days.  I've become paranoid that folks getting books from me think that I'm just not mailing them when I say I am.  I swear I send them when I say I did.  I almost feel like leaving off the DC so the aging is not apparent :).   I have also had books delivered with the delivery being the first scan.

I guess the bottom line is be patient!
