Has anyone else seen an increase in lost books over the last few months? I've had three go missing in the last six months.

Yes! One went missing in July, two in August, and in September, I had two from this site, and two from my other swap site. There's one more that's about to go missing (also ordered in September) in a couple more days. The two from this site in September had DC and were delivered.... somewhere. I have no idea what the post office is doing with my books.

Nope. The last "lost" book I had was about a year ago, though I suspect it was never mailed.

My first "lost" book was one of my first transactions - I posted a book that was WL that I think was probably auto, and the person never marked it as received and also never answered any PMs. My thinking is the person wasn't active at PBS anymore, maybe still had the WL and some credits. I figure she probably got the book and wondered where it came from...

My only other lost book was on its way to me, and the sender and I traded several PMs but it never arrived. Both transactions were almost a year ago.

I use DC for all the books I send now rather than play the odds. I actually had a book sent last Saturday from Virginia that I received on Monday! Fastest mail I've gotten here in Arizona, bar none!

I've had several books coming to me lost recently.  I think 2 of them were due to hurricanes in TX,  Who knows?  Once, a few months ago I had one of my  WL books accepted and it never appeared.  So it went "lost" via the system.  I PM'd the person who said they hadn't been on the site in months and they had no idea what I was talking about.  Which I thought was weird since they signed in long enough to get the PM!  I guess they check their email more often.  The sad thing is that one of these books is the same book  I've been trying to get.  I'm hoping the 3rd time is the charm!    I did have a box with 6 requested (through the system) get sidetracked somewhere for a long while - but it finally got delievered - just about the time the receiver was getting the new ones she ordered!

Ruth

ETA - The book was just declared lost again - but I PM'd the person who said she mailed it - she's in Hawaii and I know those take a LOT longer!

I just had a set of 4 books mailed together go lost in the mail. Weird thing is DC said it was delivered. I wonder who they delivered it to.

The thing is, as I understand it, the "delivered" message doesn't mean the package is in the recipients hands - the recipient should really contact his/her local post office and ask them where it is. If they marked it delivered, they should know where it is. My packages (to me) get marked "delivered" before the carrier leaves the PO with them on her way to my extremely rural location, and if they don't fit in my cluster box they go to another PO nearer my house (but in another state, LOL!) So they are marked delivered, but I don't have them until I drive 5 miles over the state line and pick them up, usually at least one day later - assuming the carrier remembers to put a slip in my box to tell me.

I had one go missing recently, but the sender sent it from Texas just after the hurricanes, so I'm blaming the weather for that one and it may still show up eventually...

I've been finding that books are getting to me really quickly.  Most of th eones I've sent out are taking the usual amount of time to get there, although I had 1 BOB take 3 weeks and I have another WL book that I sent to NY (1 state over) that hasn't arrived after 10 days, which is unusually long for a book going from NJ to NY.  I hope it gets to the recipient soon...I'm always surprised when I still see it under the "Books I've Mailed tab".

Since the postage went up, almost all the books I send/receive are mailed first class, so I've seen less lost or delayed books.  I've been a member about 3 years and have about 950 total transactions (sent & received). In all of those, I have 9 lost (permanently).

I have received two ripped envelopes in the last two weeks - One still contained the book and the other envelope was empty. Seemed strange for it to happen twice after no problems at all for 1 1/2 years.......
