This book really touched my heart. Carmina is a strong, courageous woman to share her story of such unbelievable horror. I had a hard time putting the book down. I enjoyed the way the book went back and forth from the past to the present but in a flowing narrative, not confusing the reader. Although it was painful to read about Carmina's suffering and the agony she went through, I could sense the strength and hope in her writing. I highly recommend this book but you will cry for sure.

This book is not for the faint of heart. It can be very graphic in the details of what happen to her and her family. To me it seems more of a journalistic telling of the story but that may be because she had Steve Jackson writing with her. Either way it is written well and a interesting story.

On April 14, 1989 Ramon Salcido commented one of the most evil unthinkable crimes. He killed 7 people. Two of them were his very young girls but he failed to kill one, his young daughter Carmina. Carmina Salcido is a survivor, not only did she survive her Father slashing her throat but the people who adopted her. This is not a easy book to read due to the intense heartbreaking subject but it is a page turner.

Talk about thoroughly detailed accounts of a crime and one's upbringing! Wow!
Carmina wrote about the upbringings of each of her parents, how they met, and the situations she remembers as a little toddler. She was nearly killed completely by her father, who brutally killed 7 people and she remembers it though she was only 10 days to her 3rd birthday. She gives detailed accounts of the crime and the reaction of those in her family and her own father over the murders.

More than half of the story talks about everything leading up through her father's imprisonment. The last bit of the story is about what Carmina's life was like once she was adopted by a family that followed a Catholic sect called TFP. She explains how she coped with her memories and how others tried to make her feel about her own family. Her life was/is extremely lonely, hard, and sad! This really was a great book though. I enjoyed this autobiography!

I really enjoy reading a good true story, and this one did not disappoint. It's pretty tough to read at points, and sometimes having two different writers distracted from the story. But I cared about Carmina and would recommend this to others who like this type of book.
