Wonderful Low country story. After reading and hating "The House on Tradd Street", I was relieved that this book did not disappoint. Beautifully written, excellent story line, with very human three dimensional characters, I didn't want the story to end. This one has it all - romance, heartbreak, tragedy, family secrets, mystery, friendship, forgiveness and so much more. Highly recommend this read from a very talented author.

Wow. I am surprised at how much I liked this book. It was not "sappy" romantic chick lit. Well written with a touch of mystery, my interest was captured throughout. The story brought forth many emotions through its characters, while also providing a glimpse at some disturbing historical truths regarding racial prejudice. It takes a lot to impress me these days with books, but this one did! Loved it.

I found this to be such an absorbing read that I stayed up half the night because I could not bear to put the book down -- I was hooked from practically the first paragraph. I did have a problem with one point of the plot but I won't discuss that here because I do not want to give anything away. My first by this author, and it won't be my last!

The was a book that made me want to read clear to the end just to find out the secret in someone's life. All the characters and lives portrayed had depth to me, but the sense of mystery in the grandmothers lives really drew me in. Wonderful reading.

Really enjoyed this book, the mystery of it pulls your interest along. Even though several characters, past and present times are involved, it isn't one of those confusing reads. Her writing has a combination of several woman authors I enjoy.

A well written engaging story populated with appealing characters, each with a dark secret or tragedy. A satisfying read with hope.

This was a good read. There are three points of view here throughout the story and each one reveals clues to the plot. It kept the story from dragging, as sometimes books do before revealing too much information. The main character, Piper, is seeking closure to the life of her grandmother, who raised her with grandfather, and both have passed. The backstory takes place in Savannah GA when hangings and beatings for being black were common, but that's just a small portion of the story. There is a family dark secret between the three women who grew up together.

love this author. well written. takes you on a life journey of grandmothers and daughters, secrets and how they effect their whole life's in the past and the future. makes you think about how things where years ago and how people had to deal with them compared to how we take our freedom and being able to express ourselves now for granted. easy read. don't want to put down need to know what is coming around the corner. about love, regrets, civil rights, and learning to forgive.

This story is thought provoking, captivating, and real. It involves characters that mature/heal over the course of the book. The romance is very compelling yet innocent - a good choice for all ages.

Surviving the tragic accident that killed her parents has always made Piper Mills feel invincible. That is, until fate strikes again and a near-fatal fall from a horse destroys her dreams of becoming an Olympic equestrian. Feeling more fragile than ever, Piper returns to Savannah and to the home she inherited from her grandparents, to retreat, recover, and reflect on all that she has lost.
