I was just reading the help documents in regard to books lost in the mail, and it said that  membership may be compromised if requested books are repeatedly lost.  I'm a little concerned, because I currently have 2 books that are very late (although not lost yet) and have 6 more books on the way.

I've had well over a hundred successful transactions.  If a bunch of my current requests go missing, will I get the boot?  *sniff*

I'll force myself to stop requesting until I start receiving books, or resolve the stiuation, but there's not much I can do about the books that are currently en route.

Hopefully there will be a mailbox full today and it will be a moot point.

Thanks for any help or advice.

I have often wondered about this too, cuz lately it seems to happen quite regularly to me (when I order books for my DH-always, never happens when I order books for myself, go figure).  I order a book, it says 'mailed' and the book never shows.  I honestly think these books are never mailed.  So.... I guess I have worried about this too.

Don't worry :  )   Even if both of the almost late books went lost, you'd still be under a 2% loss rate (not that that is their target # or anything, really I have no idea when they would start looking)  And I'm sure R&R wouldn't give you the boot without getting in touch with you first.  And I'm also pretty sure it's more about a pattern than a few books.    R&R can see behind the scenes and that gives them a much clearer picture of both sides of the transactions.  Really, stop worrying.

Besides, I'll vouch for you (like they listen to me) you sent me a really fabulous book for free yesterday.  Why would someone like that try and scam the system?  :  )

Honestly, I've been here for almost two years and I've never even heard a whisper of a rumor about R&R being anything less than fair.  People who don't abuse the system have nothing to worry about.

I had several that I sent go lost at once, and my account was put on hold until I could work it out with R&R - then my account was fine.  It only took a few days to get it taken care of.

Layne I had the same thing happen. I sent 7 books at once to the same requester in Hawaii and of course NY to Hawaii almost always takes longer than the alloted PBS time. So they all went lost at once. They were marked received about a week later but R&R were OK with it 'cause they understand the Hawaii "issue."

I had five lost on their way to be in a month's time, and I am still here.

Just a thought to those of you who have a bunch lost. Check your transaction archives to see if those people are still members. It could be that they never mailed or marked recieved because they left the site. I was pretty worried to until Cheryl (spuddie) pointed that out to me.

I've had a total of 22 lost in the mail counting both to and from me.  This is out of a total of just less than 3100 transactions completed.  Two of them were my fault in that my label with the stamps fell off the package and, despite my filling out a form identifying the contents for the PO, they couldn't (or didn't) find them.  The other 20 went to the twilinght zone, I guess.  That is a total of aabout 2/3%, which isn't bad, I think.  FYI, I have never used DC, either.  i think with these percentages, it wsn't worth the money to pay for it.

I have had three books lost in the mail in the last 2 months. I did mail the books on time, and they were wrapped securly. I received letters from the post office to fill out and return. The paperwork would supposedly help track the lost books. I have heard nothing since. The post office does lose books, and it is not necessary fair to assume the person never sent the book.

I actually have went ahead and gave two people credits, before my books even arrived. I trusted that they had sent the books, even though they were reported lost. And sure enough a few weeks later, they arrived. I wouldn't extend this to everyone. But they had been active members for a long time, so I felt confident that they had sent the books.

A weird thing happened to me.......

I mailed quite a few books at one time... three were considered lost and they were all star trek books... sent to different people!

What happened? Did someone in the PO notice I have many star trek books going out? How could they?  I know it is clear that it is a paperback swap... VERY STRANGE!!!!!!!

That is weird Tracey.  It sounds like there may be a trekker working at the post office.  ; )

Just in case anyone's curious, I did get the other 4 that were en route.  The one did go lost, and when I look at the details for the other one, it says it was mailed September 27th and printed October 12th.  I didn't get a pm from the sender, but I can only assume something went wrong with the postage or what-not and she had to re-send.
