I just received an incorrect version (ISBN) of a book that was auto-ordered for me. I was put back in the queue line, but at #2, not #1. How can this happen? Does it just take awhile to show up that I'm really back at #1? TIA! JC |

Most likely you weren't at #1 when the book was offered to you. The person ahead of you may have had conditions that were turned down so the book was offered to you next. The person in front of you could have had a book go lost, thus putting them back at #1 where they were before. They could have had their account on vacation hold when the book you were sent was posted and now they are off hold. Lots of things effect the WL lines and if you check your place with the little ! you'll notice your place moving up and down on some books. |

Why did I move *backward* on my Wish List? (Good explanation, Mary) |

If I'm not mistaken I believe the actually comment is ... that you will be returned to your previous place in the waiting line.... I think it is everyone's assumption that just because they were offered the book that they were #1 but, that is not always the case...like has been mentioned there are various reasons that you might not have actually been #1 when you were offered the book. Actually, I know I was #1 because there is no tag. When I'm at #1, I don't have a tag, when I'm not at #1, I have something like 2/5, meaning 2nd out of 5. I remove my tags at #1, so that when I get a book, the tag's still not there. I check my WL every other day and update it. JC |

Well, like others have said...folks could have had their account on Vacation Hold and they were ahead of you and they took it off hold so, they would still be ahead of you or perhaps someone else received a book that was not acceptable and they went back on the list and they would be ahead of you or maybe even someone that had had an offer and the transaction timed out and they went back in line and they had originally been ahead of you....there are many reasons you would not go back at #1....going back to #1 is not guarenteed... I remove my tags at #1, so that when I get a book, the tag's still not there. I check my WL every other day and update it. I do the same thing with notes, not tags, and remove them when I get to number 1. And since I have no life I check every day. In part I do this to see how fast lines move, and also if I am number 30 in line and I have a book offered, I know it had to have been posted directly and I'll thank the person. But back on track, I have been bumped back for other reasons...if you order a book that's in the system, and the request times out, and in the meantime a couple other people have WL'd the book, you go to the end of the line. This generally only happens with books that have a lot of requests and a lot of copies posted, so it's not a huge deal. Also, I have been offered a WL book, then had the request time out and found myself at the end of the line. I have good luck like that, and it's happened enough times I know it's not just because someone took their account off hold. |

You could have appeared #1 at the time of the offer and still belong at #1 after you received the book, for the exact reason you needed to go back onto the WL. The person in front of you could have gotten the book affered and it got damaged in sending or went lost. You would have been at #1 and gotten the offer, but when you requested to go back to #1, the other person was already back there. If you want an exact answer, use the Contact Us link below and ask them. There has always been an obvious explanation for these, but there rare also a lot of glitches so you never know. |

This happened to me recently when I was sent the wrong book by another member. I wanted to keep the book she sent me, so she told me she would post the correct book directly to my Wish List. I put the book on my Wish List again, putting me down to #4, and as of this date she has not ever posted the correct book to me. So I went from #1 to #4 on the list, and never got the book. And the list for this book is terribly slow and it took me nearly a year to get to #1 in the first place, so unless she posts that book to me, I'm in for a long wait :( |

Dana - until very recently, you had to ask to be returned to your previous place in the WL line, it was not automatic. If you rewished it and didn't contact the site to be put back to #1, you would have remained at the end of the WL line. |
