I hate this situation.  I had a book go lost yesterday.  It was and is a WL book, but today another came available.  I don’t want to accept, I would rather give the 1st book a few extra days/weeks, but I don’t want to lose my place in line.  I don’t want two of them; it is huge and would be a pain to send back out.

What would you do?

Personally, if it's something I really wanted, I would accept the newly posted one especially since there is really no guarantee that the other will show up.  I generally go to the post office at least twice a week so having to mail out an extra book would be a nonissue.  It's a little easier to stomach knowing that it is a wishlist book and should, in theory, be requested relatively quickly so you could recoupe your credit.

PM the first sender and find out if the book was mailed on time/late/never? Otherwise you'll have to decide if you want to risk not getting it at all and starting over in the WL line or getting 2 copies and having to repost one and mail it out to get the credit back.

This is one of the instances where the Hold function on the WIsh List is very handy. You could have put the book on Hold yesterday when it went lost so that you weren't offered another copy while you waited to see if the first would show.

It would depend on the book.  Is it a book that's constantly being posted with a steadily moving line?  Do I have books in the series I need to read before I can get this one?  If the answer to either of those was yes than I'd probably turn it down and take my chances.

If it was a slow moving book (it kind of sound like it isn't) or the next in a series for me that I was dyign to read-then I would probably accept it and just post the duplicate.

Thanks for all the thoughts-

I wish I had thought to put it on hold.

The book was mailed, she used DC and we can see where it got "stuck" in  a town nearby.

There are 12 wishers, but it is an older book. But I do have so many other on my TBR that I may pass and get back on the lsit

I would risk getting both WL books; you can always post the extra and get the credit back.

Well, I passed and now I am # 11 of 12, not sure who that happened but I am okay with that.  Estimate is 4 wks so that will give the 1st book time to try to get here.

Margaret, you can contact your local PO branch with the DC number...they might be able to assist with the 'stuck' situation.
