Fourteen-year-old Lainie Moskowitz's sick of her life. She can't get any privacy in her home, what with her three siblings always milling around; she can't get any boys to notice her; and to top things off, her gym class has just started an archery unit!
Then a library mix-up causes Lainie to read a book on love charms, promising true love and happiness to whoever follows them. Serious Lainie initially scoffs at it, but eventually decides she's got nothing to lose. With the help of her best friend Erica, Lainie goes through a hilarious series of fiascos, all resulting from her attempts to follow certain love charms.
Within a short time, however, Lainie does begin attracting the attention of several boys. She's happy, but not as thrilled as she might be if she managed to snag her crush, Kit Anderson. As hard as she tries, Lainie can't seem to get Kit's attention...until she finally understands that charms aren't really the answer...
