Good writing with a very tortured hero. I didn't like the end, though. Too abrupt.

I really wanted to like this book because the storyline was very intriguing but the hero, Killoran, was an ass until end of the book. I love tortured heroes but he was just too much without feeling and was too cold-hearted. The reason behind for him being this way was not that traumatic, I read heroes with much worse fate and they were still acted better than Killoran. I also didnt really like the heroin, Emma, because she took him back no matter how he constantly used and humiliated her. Emma kept on saying he has a good heart underneath but not even once does he do something that showed that, in fact because of him she end up getting hurt more and he doesnt seem sorry for any of it. In addition, I hated the fact how easily Emma forgave him for everything..at this point I wanted throw way the book because I was SO frustrated. By time the epilogue came, I actually didnt want this jerk of hero to have happy ending and I really had hard time believing he actually changed and wasnt that jackass anymore.

The secondary characters and storyline was great. In my opinion Nathaniel was SO much better man than the Killoran.

Not Anne Stuart's best but still a good read. Alpha male- dark and dangerous but really good at heart Killoran rescues Emma after she kills her uncle (he was trying to kill her). Their lives become entwined as Killoran decides to use Emma for revenge against his sworn enemy.

This is an earlier Anne Stuart book but the characters are similar to what she writes today. The male character has a dark past and a dark disposition. Emma has a lot of grit and takes nothing from him. She is hiding a secret of her own.

I liked this book. It kept my interest, which is difficult these days, and I would recommend it.
