I hoped for more of a James Harriot type story but this isn't it. Instead part of it are nice anectdotes but the rest of the book is acupuncture, herbs, etc. Not that alternative medicine is bad, but this book reads like an ad for it. Some of his claims are awfully big, too. He talks about saving clinically dead animals just by poking them between the nose and mouth. He cures all sorts of ailments just with a few acupunture needles. It sounds like a stretch: all my friends who go to acupuncturists say it takes more than a few minutes of your first visit to see big results.
I finished it and still didn't find any "spiritual understanding". Not quite what I thought the book would be.
