I could almost give a Sharon McCrum book 5 stars without reading it. As the reviewer said: "Who but Sharyn McCrumb can make a skull with a bullet hole funny?" I didn't realize this was book two of a series, and I don't think it matters, as events and people were perfectly clear.
A light mystery with a collegiate, outdoor and Appalachian slant. (Including some possibly useful information on native plants, also on scientific work with skull measurements. Heh, heh.)

I enjoyed this book, but I can't give it five stars, because when compared to other books of this genre it comes up short. However, it's interesting because of the herbal aspect and the Indian aspect. I think it's worth reading even if it's not the best I've read.
First book I've read by Sharyn Mccrumb and I didn't know how well I'd like her story, but it was well written and kept my attention.

Fun and fluffy, with pretty good anthropology and academic politics.
An Indian burial ground and a murder by tomahawk! Sharyn McCrumb's story tells of an archeological expedition to help an Indian tribe of Cullowhees save their land from strip miners. But one of the members of the expedition finds death instead!
Sharyn McCrumb doesn't write a bad book! This one is a real winner!
