I listened to this book on 11 Cds. I read some really negative and mixed reviews on Amazon, but they didn't sway me to the dark side.
This audio had a very good narrator, who brought the book to life. It was story to be told, and it did wax poetically at times, but that was what I was looking for a saga of family coping with the death of one brother in the lowlands. You will hear the story over time, from many viewpoints. Nothing much will shock or offend you. No big twists or turns in the plot, just a well done narrative of the lives of several players.
I have to add that I always thought Jhumpa Lahiri was a man, because I thought HE wrote the namesake, but SHE did.
Listening to this book will not be a waste of time, as long as you can enjoy it for what it is, a family saga.
