ISBN 0449500160 - The writing style sometimes seems to try too hard - for example, everyone "collects", as in "you're leaving, I collect?" It sounds/reads clumsy and sent me to find any proof at all that this was actual English - which it is; "collect" is a synonym for "conclude". Still annoyed me.
Susan's mother is still considered a great beauty and has recently become a widow, just as Susan is old enough for her first season. A little jealous and young enough to be silly, Susan misinterprets just about everything, especially the relationship between her mother and Lord John. Susan falls in love with him, but it appears that Lord John intends to marry her mother and Susan is certain her only chance to marry for love is gone.
Other than my language issues, it's a fairly good book and more a comedy of errors than a romance. If you're the romance fan looking for erotic scenes, you won't find them here (which is a positive to me!). Without throbbing et al to search for, I chose the most bizarre, undecipherable line and found this: "I've no wish to sound insufferable, but I'm as plump in the pocket as need be, and am not likely to want for a roll of soft until I stick my spoon in the wall!" Fun!
