Good read for someone who wants a quick bio on LBJ. Perhaps Schulman over-relies on Doris Kearns Goodwin and other well-establisehd authors (such as Caro for his first chapter). For a more extensive bio, get something else. The chapter on Vietnam is rather unsatisfying but kudos to Schulman for sticking with the theme of liberalism. This book would be a great introduction for any historian studying liberalism in US history.
