I do love the Hamish MacBeth books by MC Beaton. They are lite and cozy books set in Scotland where Hamish is a constable with a reputation of being overly lazy. All the cases he solves (and he solves many) are always credited to his superiors, for he loves living in a small town and simply being a constable! . I have read many of these books and want to read them all!!  There is light humor, and his lady friends do make his life more interesting though they seem to come and go!

I have just discovered MC Beaton's books and have thoroughly en;joyed the few I've read so far.  Love the humor in them and plan to read more.  Have you read any of Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe mysteries?  They are also filled with humor brought on by Wolfe's sidekick investigator.  Although Stout died many years ago, his mysteries still remain popular; probably because the mystery is always intricate and can never be figured out before the end of the book!   I want to read them all!

I really enjoy the books of M.C.Beaton and I prefer Hamish MacBeth to the Agatha Raisin, though...I like both series'. I will say that for me, the style can be a bit formulaic so I enjoy them more when I read one or two and then take a break before reading the next. I do enjoy them, though, and I recommend them a lot!
