So -- I just received a card from my MIL. She has a first American edition of Dorothy Dunnett's Checkmate (the last book in the Lymond chronicles) signed by the author. Now, as some of you know, I love the Lymond series and love, love, love Lymond. My MIL went to a lunch gathering years ago where Dunnett read the part in  Queen's Play about the race atop the steeples and rooftops in Paris (which, for those of you familiar with the books, is an absolutely fabulous scene). According to my MIL, "it was great fun and [DD] was very nice." My MIL is clearing out her bookshelves and wants to know if I would like the book. Hhhmmmm...let me think for a nanosecond...
