I am honestly shocked at myself. WTH did I read Magic Strikes in 2009 and wait until 2011 to read Magic Bleeds. WTF was I thinking? I absolutely love Curran and can't believe it's been two years without a fix.

This book had it all: 8 nasty bad guys/gals, Curran, serious romantic angst, Order b.s., Council b.s., friends with brains in the butt and did I mention Curran? He is the absolute best alpha hero. I even cried when he was in a coma. I knew he would come out of it but boy did it hurt. It's terrible to get so caught up in books, heck they aren't real but man-o- man does it grab you and keep you entangled. Kate is a fabulous kick-ass heroine who just doesn't take any shit from anyone. My kinda gal. If you aren't reading this series, what are you waiting for? It is one top of the line series that never disappoints.

It's important to read this series in order. That's unusual comment for me as I often read whatever I pick up but this one I read in order. I'm glad I did because the character development begins with the first novel. The heroine is Kate Daniels, a "kick-ass" heroine with ethics. She chooses to protect all the citizens of Atlanta, human or otherwise.

When she investigates a shapeshifter death infected with a virulent disease, she strikes out to find who or what is responsible for spreading it. As a Knight of the Order she finds herself forced to choose between saving the citizens of Atlanta whoever they may be or following the guidelines set by the order.

In her personal life, Kate's relationship with Curran, the Beast Lord, is still shaky. When he fails to appear for a special meal she prepared she begins to doubt the strength of their relationship - again. But things start to smooth out as the two begin to talk about their feelings and how to solve their problems. Of course, they continue to have disagreements but life for them as a couple is improving.

In this novel we learn much about Kate and who she was as well as how Curran became who he is today. In addition, Kate is forced to fight demon after demon whose tactics are down and dirty, forcing Kate to become creative in her defensive moves. Some readers may find the fight scenes too numerous and want to jump ahead but the authors meld them together for an appropriate climatic battle.

Like many others, I am so involved in this series that I can hardly wait for the next installment. It's well done and well written.

These books keep getting better! I love the series, but LOVED this book! The characters are well developed, the relationship with Kate and Curran moves along and keeps you guessing. There is a wonderful blend of humor and action and I really enjoyed the new character, the dog. :)

Magic Bleeds is the fourth book in Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series. Kate Daniels is a mercenary who works for the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid, an organization that polices the Magic in the city of Atlanta. Kate goes to investigate a murder that takes place in a border bar frequented by pack and necromancers. Kate encounters a dangerous enemy with the power to control disease. She must put her feelings for Curran the pack leader aside as she tries to hunt down this harbinger of death.

I will admit that it took me a little while to commit to this series. The romance between Kate and Curran was developing a little too slowly for my tastes. I will now gladly eat those words because Magic Bleeds delivered and delivered well even above my high expectations. Slow in this case really works. The build-up was well worth the wait and makes it all the more delicious. Kate and Curran have a lot of problems to overcome if they are to have a successful relationship. I loved that Curran really comes to light in this book. His motivations for why he does the things he does are revealed and the reader gets some back story on Curran.

The world that Andrews has created is complex and terrifying. These creatures that go bump in the night are very powerful. Amazingly enough Kate is able to fight against them and triumph. I found Magic Bleeds to be better balanced between the grimness of situation Kate is trying to fix and the sarcastic humor with how she handles it. Magic Bleeds was funny. I wasn't expecting that. It's always good when a heroine doesn't take herself too seriously and can see the humor in the situation. It lightens things up. This was definitely the best book in the series thus far and one for the keeper shelf.

This is the 4th book in the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. Right now there are seven books contracted for this series. Believe it or not, this book was even better than Magic Strikes, book 3. These books keep getting better and better...I mean just wow! I absolutely loved this book. I listened to this on audio book and the audio books are very, very well done.

Kate gets a call for help from a bar. She arrives to find that there a shapeshifter dead and infected with a virulent disease. As she tries to track down the magic user spreading the disease she finds out that this is no ordinary bad person. Someone from Kate's family is in town and they want to bring down Kate and all of Atlanta with her. Kate's position in the Order becomes shaky as the lead Knight of the Order forces Kate to choose between saving lives and following protocol. Things are also especially tense between Kate and Curran; especially when Curran fails to show for a special dinner date.

This was an awesome book. The Andrews (husband and wife writing team) do an excellent job with characterization, action scenes, and plot. The writing is darkly humorous, sardonic, engaging, and just all out fun to read. There are some pretty steamy scenes in this book and the Andrews do an excellent job capturing characters' vulnerable sides as well as their kick-ass attitudes.

So what was the most awesome part of the story? Well basically all of it. We learn a ton about Kate's family and past. Kate's new enemy is unbelievably powerful and brings along four excellent sidekicks in a mission to destroy Kate. It was wonderful to learn more details about Kate's childhood and crazy past. We also learn a lot about Curran's past; where he came from and what made him who he is.

The action scenes are spectacular and creative. The undead mages that Kate fights, fight dirty and Kate uses a lot of creative techniques to deal with them. This book helped fill out the world as a whole and tied a lot of things together.

Of course I have to mention the relationship between Kate and Curran. There relationship...matures a lot in this story. They still drive each other nuts, but I was happy to see how realistically and practically they dealt with the problems their relationship (or lack of one at points) causes. It was so nice to have two great characters compromise in ways that leads to a solid, if troublesome, relationship.

At the end of the book the main storyline in nicely wrapped up. There is still the overlying story-arc of Roland and what he will do if/when he discovers Kate is alive. I have been very happy with how these novels are done. They are well done, well planned, and have excellent characters. I enjoy the humor, action, and engaging plot. If I have one small complaint it is that Kate can get a bit melodramatic at times and approaches fights with a kind of "OMG we are all going to die attitude." She does this quite often and, being how many fights she's survived, I wish she had a bit more confidence in herself :-)

Overall loved this book. It is perfect. Can these books keep getting better and better? Well I will have to wait for book 5 to find out and I am eagerly, desperately waiting for book 5. Meanwhile I will have to settle with reading the Edge book, Bayou Moon, which is out in September. Also check out Silent Blade if you haven't. It is more of a romance than the Kate Daniels series but still an awesome story.

I'm glad I gave this series a chance after the first two books - it really improved and books 3 & 4 rocked. Action, humor, friendship, romance - had it all. Let's hope Andrews doesn't slack off. The book opens with a quarrel between Kate and Curran when he stands her up for dinner (so she thinks). Then Kate gets busy with a supernatural being that spreads super-diseases and appears to be targeting the Pack. Of course things turn out to be much bigger than she originally thinks, and we get Kate's background explained even further when she meets up with a relative. Somehow in the midst of all the supernatural battles her relationship with Curran progresses as they kiss and make up (ooh la la). Kate's supernatural abilities do take a little bit of swallowing but it's fun to believe, so the reader just goes along for the roller coaster ride. I was dismayed to find out that the next book isn't coming out till May 31.

This is most definitely one series that keeps getting better. My favorite book so far. The banter between Kate and Curran is so awesome. They play off each other so well. I think how compromise is so important in their relationship (it's very obvious in this one compared to other romances I've read). They have to decide if they really want a relationship and they have to fight for it. Back to the banter- I spent a great deal of time giggling manically at the back and forth between Kate and, well, everyone else.

Ilona Andrews has done wonders with this series. Kate Daniels is a tough, smart and mercurial warrior in this world of supernatural players. This book in this series is one that will keep you rapt if you are truly an urban fantasy fan.

Im actually reading this series in order for a change and watching the relationships slowly progress has been as enjoyable as the fast paced fantasy aspects that encompass each installment. When this one starts Kate is thisclose to caving in to Currans charms but things dont turn out the way anyone expects. And I liked that. It kept me guessing instead of petering out and leaving me bored. Nothing is going to be easy for these two.

This was my favorite of the series, the UF subplot was interesting in that it was so closely tied to Kate and seemed to flow naturally, it didnt seem like a tacked on throwaway monster of the week sort of thing too common in these sorts of books. I adored the new canine sidekick, of course, and Kate and Currans relationship takes a giant leap here only after some minor bumps, missteps and some craftily placed super glue. This book was exciting, fun and it made me teary. 5 stars. I dont know how she can improve on this one but Ill be anxiously waiting to see what happens next.
