Having purchased two previous audibooks of this author (The Eight & Calculated Risk), both of which were excellent books (Eight being a little more excellent), I decided to give this one a listen-to when I saw it posted. In some ways, you can compare this book to "The DaVinci Code", although this one was writtem much earlier. Katherine Neville is a gifted writer, her books seem to be well researched, and fast paced. Her books, when compared to other authors in the Mystery/Thriller genre are definatley more "literate" than most. In this book, you are treated to an intricate story line involving history, mythology, faith and power. Somehow she manages to weave together stories of Christ, Mary Magdalagne, and Joseph of Arimathea with those of Ceasar and Hitler. Go figure that one! Personally, I found this book offered me a story that kept my interest level up, to the point that I was a little disappointed when the last tape ended. This is a very complex book - one that will exercise your mind trying to grasp all the different threads between ancient history and modern times. I will be the first to admit that this is NOT an easy read/listen. That being said, it is well worth an attempt to understand it. If for no other reason than to marvel at the ability of someone who can mesh all the various elements into a winner of a story.
