The Magic Author:Juliana Garnett, Elizabeth Lowell Rhys ap Griffyn is on his way back to Wales as the rightful lord of Glenlyon, when he meets Sasha, who is seeking her champion to fulfill a prophecy. A Russian gypsy had told Sasha when she was eight years old that a half lion, half eagle- a griffyn, will restore what she once had. Sasha saw a griffyn on Rhys's shield and she believes him to be ... more »her hero. Immediately they are enamored with each other, but his men are wary of her as they think she is a fairy. Sasha can read other people's minds, except Rhys's. She wants his oath that he will perform a labor for her so she invites Rhys to her tent and he agrees to her terms: he will perform a labor for her in return for one night with her in his bed. Before the evening progresses further, Rhys is drugged and when he awakes in the morning, he recalls only sketchy details of his night with Sasha. His men discover that she was responsible for drugging their wine and detaining them, and now Rhys does not trust her. He thinks she is working for whoever has taken control of Glenlyon. Rhys is eager to return to his home and he takes Sasha with him. Rhys asks Sasha who she is spying for and she describes an ugly man, just to appease him, not knowing that she has described so vividly in Rhys's mind a man he knows. Rhys is able to take over the castle and he imprisons his enemy. He does not trust Sasha yet but he can't resist her, and he takes her to his bed. Sasha wants Rhys to love her, but she also wants him to keep his agreement and fight for her legacy. Sasha's companion tells her to think of the prophecy, and recall all that she has lost, and then decide what if what she lost is the same thing she really wants. During a tourney Sasha performs a magic act to impress Rhys, but she gets lost in the castle. She is captured by the escaped enemy but Rhys appears before she is taken away, and he is given a choice: Sasha or Glenlyon. A wonderful medieval historical! It will enchant you!
