Where is this?  I know I have seen it.  Does a book have to be on my bookshelf to do this?  What is it is on hold on my bookshelf.

You can use the mail to a friend option for posted books on your bookshelf. There will be a line that says "mail to a friend". You can't post wishlisted books to a friend though.

If you have money in your account you could also use the custom Delivery confirmation label and this would print a shipping label. This would probably work with your bookshelf on hold.

I don't think the mail to a friend option shows for books on hold or when your account is on vacation.   I had to tak emy shelf off vacation to use the feature one time when mailing a game book I had posted.

Custom Delivery won't allow you to print postage, just the DC, so you will still need to go to the post office if it is over 13oz.

I'm not terribly familiar with the ways of PBS enough to know if this is kosher, but can't you just delete if from your bookshelf and mail it to her?  If she's a PBS member, could she just gift you a credit?  Maybe I'm not understanding......

Margaret - you can still avoid going to the P.O. Here's how:

1) Post a book you don't have that's also very available in the system. "The Da Vinci Code" is a good one to use. You just want to post a book that won't be requested from you or go into a wish list hold before you complete the rest of the steps.

2) Go to your My Bookshelf page and click on the title of the book you don't have to bring up the book details page. The Mail it to a Friend link is on the right, where the Order This Book button usually goes.

3) Enter your friend's address.

4) When you confirm, the order goes onto your My Account page where you can print a normal wrapper with postage. The wrapper page will be pre-filled with the weight of "The Da Vinci Code" or whatever book you used, so make sure to change the weight to the correct amount for the book you're sending before you print.

5) Mark the book mailed, then mark it received. Don't cancel, that will put the book you don't actually have back onto your bookshelf.

you can't post a WL book and then use the Mail To a Friend option.  It'll immediately offer it to the first person on the WL.  So you'll have to use custom DC or post a dummy book of similar size (to get the correct postage).

If you have a paypacl account, you can print postage through them.

It actually fell off the WL this morning so I was able to post it and mail to a friend.  I will remember the "dummy book" idea for next time!  Thanks everyone.

I find that Angels and Demons is most valuable to me as my dummy book.  I hate using the Custom DC.  I love the Mail to a Friend option.

Haha Ruth!  I use that book too.  Between the two of us we've probably artificially increased the # trades for that book by 20%.
