got notification that a book i WL'd was available so i accepted it and ofc naturally assumed the book was on it's way...today i get an email saying 'sorry' b/c the book can't be mailed and the reason the sender gave was 'because i'm busy' (i'm a newbie but i've mailed 6 books already and know u have a few days to accept a request and then i've used the 'mail later feature' so books aren't expected to be mailed as soon as you click the button)....SO, i understand since it's now NOT gonna be mailed, i'm going back on the WL. that's fine...what i'm having trouble understanding is (unless the sender takes the book off of their shelf) am i now going to have to wait to get this book until this person is unbusy? or i get notified if another person lists the book?

Welcome to PBS Latesha.  No, you do not have to wait on this 'busy' member.  When she declined, the book was returned to your wishlist and the next copy posted FIFO will be offered to you (if you are #1).  OTOH, the system automatically removed the book from her bookshelf, and she will have to post it again later...when she's less 'busy'.

Although her answer was a bit blunt, better she admited to being too busy and cancelled so you can return to the wishlist...some members just accept (even mark the book mailed) and don't get around to actually sending.  In which case you have to wait 4 weeks for the book to be marked lost, then another week or two is recomended before you reorder--ugh.  RL happens and patience is a virtue, but I wish some members would be honest (luckily the numbers are few) that something has arisen and they are having difficulty mailing on schedule.

Maybe a family emergency came up.  Better to cancel himself than to let the transaction time out because he misses the mailing date.

PBS does keep track of how many times we cancel wish listed books. If the percent gets too high, PBS should be reviewing the reasons. Life and mistakes do happen. But if it happens too often, it will be noticed. Cancelling is slightly better than waiting for the order to time out, for both members.

thanks to all for your responses...trying to figure this out on my own had me thinking i'd have to wait for him/her and like you all said, i took into consideration that something could have come up...monday is the absolute best day for me to mail my requests b/c it's an off day, and i have a 2 week stretch between paydays so the few days to accept and option to mail later are a blessing to me lol

for this book, i'm 2 of 2 btw...while searching for the answer to this one i found and understand the whole position thing and how it can change...

I myself had to say no to a book mailing for the first time ever, as my car is in the shop and I have neither the time, the means to get there or the money to mail a book this week!  I explained all this to the requester in a pm just to ease my own mind, and told them that I'd let them know when I was back to track and could mail it, if they still wanted it.

Another thing that sometimes happens is a person has a strech of free time and posts a wl book.  It goes through 7 or 8 people, so now they are at a very busy time.

Hope you get it soon.  That can be a reall dissapointment.
