I am new to PBS and after receiving my first request for a book I looked through the requestors wish list and see that I have 3 additional books that they want. I haven't had the opportunity to post them yet so they are not on my bookshelf. I sent a PM and the person does want these books. Is there a way that I can post these books and be sure a specific member gets to order them? How are deals offered?

If you go onto the member's bookshelf wishlist you can post your books directly to that member

Thanks for correcting me. I did mean wishlist.

As a clarification of the above, go to their Wish List, and post the books direct to their Wish List.

Yes, go to their wishlist and post from there.  Be careful not to click on the book first (and open the information page), as that will post the book FIFO.

Smart of you to ask first, b/c some members do not keep enough credits on hand to accept multiples without some 'arranging' first.

From the Help Center:

Can I post a book directly to someone's Wish List?

Yes.  If you have a book that is on someone's Wish List, then all you need to do to offer that book directly to that member (and NOT to the first person on the Wish List) is to go to the member's Wish List and click the [Post this Book]  button there. Be sure the ISBN on your book matches the ISBN on her Wish List!

To get to a member's Wish List - use the button on your Friends List or on her Forum Post or click her name in a Personal Message or on a transaction in your Transaction Archive, to go to her Profile or Bookshelf (both of which have a link to her Wish List). Or, if you are a Gold Key member and the other member is on your Friends list, you will be shown her name when you post the book and can choose to post directly to her (or any other wishing Friend) that way.

Please note:

  • Your book will be offered to that member first, no matter where she is in the Wish List for that book.
  • If that member does not request the book, it will then be offered to the first person on the Wish List and continue to be offered until someone requests it or until it is Posted into the general library.

If you have trouble with this (if the book is offered to/requested by someone other than your friend after you post it), these are the possibiities:

  • You did not use the "Post this Book" button *on your friend's Wish List* to post the book
  • Your friend failed to respond and the offer passed to the first wisher on the Wish List
  • Your friend clicked "I do not want this book" or "Not Now" on the offer, and the offer passed to the first wisher on the Wish List
  • Your friend does not have credits and his/her account is on Vacation Hold with the book on auto-request  (during Vacation Hold, the auto-request will not convert to a 48-hour offer).
  • Your friend requested it, but you declined for Requestor Conditions
  • If you can't see her Wish List - your friend has chosen to keep that private using her Privacy Controls.
  •

Neither of you can be on vacation hold when you do this.

In the Book Bazaar there are rules for posting there. Listed in a red sticky thread at the top of that forum http://www.paperbackswap.com/How-Use-Forum-Please-Read/topic/39715/ The rules of the Book Bazaar specifically prohibit offering Wish List books there.

General Rules in the Book Bazaar:

(6) No trying to jump the Wish List "line" by offering or asking for postable Wish Listed books.  Postable Wish Listed books should be posted and swapped "officially".  This of course does not apply to posts advertising an alternate ISBN  (or non-ISBN version) of a Wish Listed title; it is fine to advertise that you have those posted to your account Bookshelf.

There is an exception to that rule, ONE thread, the monthly Wish List Multiples thread. This thread has additional rules listed in it that people need to follow in order for us to be allowed to offer WL book in multiples in order to save on postage.

What John is asking about is different that someone just posting because it is a private transaction already started with a member. Someone posting their own thread in the Book Bazaar is not in a private transaction with someone, they are just posting to the general membership and in violation of the rules there. If someone posts in the WL Multiples thread in the Bazaar following the additional rules there, then there is no problem. Its an additional step, but it is one we need to take to be able to offer multiple WL books and save on postage.
