Well, it helps me, but not others....

Take the time to use the new notes feature and transfer your personal tags to notes instead. These notes are only visible to you, and you will see it as a post-it note graphic over the cover image of the book.

Yes, for some of us it will be a hassle, but consider whether your noting that you've read the book, or what your ranking on the WL is, or whether you want to send a book to a buddy is going to be very helpful to the general population.

So get out there and transfer those personal public tags to personal private notes and delete those old tags. :)

(So sorry, I accidentally posted this to the Comprehensive thread, sorry.  Deleted it there, and am posting here instead.)

Hehe, I never thought I'd see Jane promoting a Tag REMOVAL mission, but as always, this mission is as valid and helpful as all of her tag missions are.  I'll join this one like I've joined the others.  Thank you for your work with the tags, Jane!!

You're welcome! And don't worry about the other thread. I just didn't want all the missions to get lost in discussion about them over there! No harm done!

I think moving my tags to the Notes is so much more helpful since I can add other things and don't have to make up cryptic little things, I can just say what I want to say! I think they are going to be a great asset! Not only can I mark that it's on my TBR, i can put it's location in there too!

I only have one problem with this.   I did what was asked of us on the tags, then they changed things and my tags are no good.   I'm not sure I want to waste my time redoing it because who knows when they'll change this.        I love this site but I DO wish they'd make up their minds!

Just wanted to say that once you put a note on a book you can follow it anywhere and add or subtract info as time goes on.  Like if you have or had that book already in your TBR or BIR!!  You can also put other ISBN's that the title comes in as well.

Okay.  I've done the star rating on all those books that had to go on my BIR list.  But I can't seem to get this coordinated when I post a book I've read.

Here's what I do:

1.  The book is on my TBR list.

2.  I read the book and am ready to post it and list it on my BIR list.

3.  Unless I totally miss it, when I post the book I don't see an option to add it to my BIR list at the same time.

It seems to be that there should be a "reminder" to add it to the BIR when I post a book.  When I post the book, it removes it from my TBR list and adds it to my posted books.  Why doesn't it also add it to my BIR list?  This shouldn't require two separate transactions.

Am I doing something wrong?

Just go to the listing page for any book you've read and click on the number of stars you want to give it  - then use the "Other Options" for the pull-down menu and choose "+to my BIR".  Not hard - but you do need to go out of your way.  You can also do it from your TBR before you post it or from your bookshelf.

The main drawback to using notes instead of tags is that you can't search for your notes, or get all the ones with the same note on the same page the way that you can with the tags.
