Donna Jean's mother died when she was 7. Later, as an adult, she looks for healing from the unresolved grief of her childhood. The story is told from her perspective as an adult, with flashbacks to scenes of her childhood. The setting is the Upper Penninsula of Michigan. I really liked this book, except that I didn't relate to the occasional references to Catholicism.

Heartbreaking true story about a young, smalltown girl's love for and lost of, her mother. Interesting look at how death was dealt with in the early 60's. Quick read, touching, I would recommend this book.
