Well... this has to be one of her earlier ones. The characters are kind of weak. The man in the story would be what I would consider emotionally abusive, and the woman too fickle. Otherwise, the plot was ok. 2 1/2 stars.

For the most part I enjoy JAK's novels, however, she sometimes creates scenarios where a little common sense on the heroine and/or hero's parts would make things less complicated for her characters. I know this would make for a much shorter book, but this novel left me cranky that everyone was so dopey.

This was written in the "hero overwhelms heroine because he just knows they'll be good together" era. If you get past that part - it's an enjoyable read/listen.

Kelsey Murdock. Hed invaded her life, assaulting her with his sensuality, tempting her to be reckless.
She sensed something dangerous about the man in the secrets he refused to share, the past that still haunted him, the coiled tension that denied intimacy. For Cole, the past was a closed door. For Kelsey, that meant too many questions and no answers and the best reason to walk away, before it was too late.

But when a simple business trip turns into a dangerous survival game, she is plunged into a world Cole knows all too well. Now Kelsey must trust he knows it well enough to keep them both alive.

This book is not a good representative of the author's excellent ability. Cole threatens, intimidates, and practically date rapes Kelsey and justifies it by citing their mutual attraction. And she later agrees! It's a slap in the face to anyone trying to get out of an abusive relationship.

When a simple business trip turns into a dangerous game of survival, kelsy is thrown into a world of special ops where Cole seems very much an expert. Despite her misgivings and distrust ofCole, she now must depend on him and trust this mysterious man for her very life.

Could not get into this book. The opening "love" scene was a rape portrayed as hot love making. Rape is rape...this bothered me.
