This is a nice, solid work from Donaldson (originally published under the pseudonym Reed Stephens). As usual, he's concerned about questions of ethics and relationships, and the plot is just a vehicle for discussing those things. Personally I think his fantasy work is stronger, but I enjoyed this one.
