During the Black Drive of 1830 Manganinnie, a Tasmanian Aborigine, becomes separated from her tribe. Seeing her loneliness, Droemerdeene the ancestral spirit tells her that he will send her a little white girl to care for and love. For three years Manganinnie and Jo-Jo follow the seasons and visit the ancient festival grounds of Manganinnie's People. But tragedy strikes, and Manganinnie knows that she must give up that which means most in her life.
