One of mine was W Juliet. I picked it up and not liking anything gender bender or yaoi on a usual basis (although I will read some yuri), I thought I'd hate the guy-dressed-as-a-girl and girl-who-looks-like-a-boy bit... but I've really liked it.

What about you?

Can you tell me more about this book? Sounds interesting. I know practically nothing about this genre so I need a lot of help. :-)

I thought I wouldn't care much for Imadoki, because it revolves around a garden (and I'm not that big on planting), but it ended up being my favorite manga so far.  Even if I think it ended all wrong!!  I had thought I would love Model instead, but was disappointed in that I couldn't follow along anymore after book 3.  I thought that because it was about an artistist (and I am totally into art!) that I would love it right away, and I did.  But, after the third book... I don't even know what happened. The story seemed to spiral out of control and I couldn't keep up.  I lost track of who was talking a good bit of the time, I think the chick was sleeping with both the guy characters (but I really don't know), I hope nothing had happened to the kid when he was swimming in Michael's tub (because that is still bothering me), and it had this story that seemed to pop up out of nowhere before the story was even finished!  I just scratched my head and sighed.  What a waste...  it had started out so well...

I didn't think I would like Nana (too angsty) but then I saw the first movie and loved it. The first 5 or so books in the manga are really good but I quit reading after one of the main characters marries the wrong guy (too frustrating).

W Juliet is basically about a young man who wants to pursue acting but his traditional Japanese family thinks it's a very ridiculous concept. To prove his acting skills, he goes to a school and has to act like a female for the entire year without being found out if he wants to act. There's a girl who looks like a boy who attends and they basically become close friends/maybe a crush/ect... You'll have to read it and find out, right?!

It's a good one, at least the first novel. I haven't read the second yet but I hope to soon.

I thought that I'd hate Naruto but I got bored one day and read the first volume. Now it's my all time favorite!

Second for me for Naruto.  Thought it was a kids' story and was surprised by the adventure and intensity of it.  Enjoying it, and I can't wait for Vol 49 to come out!

Prince of Tennis still shocks me that I enjoy it, but it has good characters.  I'm only partway through but so far it's been good.

Basara

I found vol. 1 on a friend's bookshelf & borrowed it. At first I hated it because the art was pretty awful (to me anyway) but as I kept reading I got really pulled into the story. Now I'm trying my hardest to collect the manga which is now saddly out of print. (you can read or watch what there is of it online) The anime was never finished. TT.TT

Kimi ni Todoke - I really didn't think I could get past the artwork, but I started to read it and am just hooked on it.  I only finished the first 2 volumes, but I am pretty surprised by it ^_^

I've still been collecting my manga, but haven't started anything new yet...  Maybe I'll dig out some of my copies of the titles mentioned here and read or re-read them!

ETA:  I just completed my collection of Basara, got missing Vol. 20 from PBS here!!!!!

Mine was Ouran High School Host Club. Though I watched the Anime first which is something I rarely did. I remember thinking,"ok might as well watch this cuz I want to know what it is when I go to conventions" I thought it would be full of Yaoi and at the time I didn't like yaoi(still not a huge fan though it's all right) Ended up absolutely loving it, buying the manga and cosplaying it :)

Oh man, where do I start?

I agree that OHSHC was a bit of a stretch for me (all of my friends were singing its praises, so I had to take a look). Um...

Midori No Hibi

Kaze Hikaru

D.N.Angel

Rosario + Vampire

...etc.
