We Can't All Be Rattlesnakes  Author: Patrick Jennings     My granddaughter and I read this together.  The book is from a snake's perspective.  

I enjoyed her "Big Stone Gap" series very much, so I have high hopes for this book as well.

reading Time And Again by Jack Finney. Been on my shelf for years, so far enjoying it about New York and someone sent back in time to 1882. Not creepy time travel

Finished this month:  The Hearing by John Lescroart ---There's corruption in the San Francisco DA's office and Hardy's client has been charged with the murder of a lawyer with ties to that office.  There's a lot going on in the main plot with several sub-plots, but Lescroart gets them all connected when the hearing for the case finally gets before a judge.  One of those books that it took me awhile to get into, but when I did, I couldn't put it down.

Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks --- Katie has come to Southport, North Carolina seeking a safe place to hide. She meets Alex and his two children and is drawn to them, but afraid to let herself get too close. An all too true story about spousal abuse.

Running From the Law by Lisa Scottoline --- Rita Morrone is a lawyer who's not afraid to bluff, whether in a court of law or playing poker, but when it comes to defending a federal judge on a murder charge, she knows she has to do more than bluff.  She has to find the real murderer. A good plot, just more vulgarity than I normally read. Guess it's some of the character's make-up [even Rita's] but it seemed a little over the top.

The Rosewood Casket by Sharyn McCrumb --- Randall Stargill is dying and he has left instructions for his 4 sons to make a casket for him out of the rosewood he has stored in his barn.  But times are changing in the mountains; 3 of the sons have moved away and when they come home to carry out their father's request, they face conflicts and problems from other neighbors and a real estate agent.  McCrumb writes with the voice of Appalachia.

Alley Kat Blues by Karen Kijewski --- Kat Colorado has been hired by the mother of a young woman supposedly killed by a hit-and-run driver because she feels like her daughter was murdered. While investigating this, Kat also is concerned about her boyfriend, Hank, a Las Vegas detective who's getting too emotionally involved in a serial killer case he's working on.

The Alpine Decoy by Mary Daheim --Newspaper editor/publisher, Emma Lord has her hands full when 2 men are murdered in Alpine, WA.  They are both African/American which makes the people of Alpine wonder, since there's only one other African/ American living in town; newcomer Marilynn Lewis, a nurse just hired by the town doctors.  Racial strife is only one of the problems that raises it's ugly head until Emma and her friend, Vida, can find the killer.

Haunted by Heather Graham --- 1st in the Harrison Investigations series, I couldn't put this book down [one of those 2:00 in the morning books]!!  Matt Stone doesn't believe in ghosts, but when people report seeing ghosts in his family's centuries-old home, he asks Adam Harrison for help, thinking it will put a stop to the stories.  Darcy Tremayne is sent to investigate and what she finds turns Matt's world upside down, in more ways than one!!  Paranormal at it's best!

I'm reading

1.  Calamity Jane and the Haunted Homecoming / Kathleen Bacus.  This is the third in the series.  CJ can be a bit annoying simply because she's so very insecure. 

2.  The Housewife Assasin's Handbook / Josie Brown.  Donna has become an assassin since her husband was killed in the line of duty.  Supposedly CIA duty in the US?  The CIA is supposed to be overseas only isn't it?  Between taking her kids to school she has "assignments".

3,  Track of the Scorpion / Val Davis.  Nick Scot is an historical archeologist which means she investigates things (planes are her forte) in the past, roughly 50 years ago.  Her latest find is a WWII plane in New Mexico.

4.  The Alpine Zen / Mary Daheim.  Not the end of the series!  Loose threads and on her web site Mary Daheim has said the series will go on!

5.  Out of the Dying Pan / Linda Reilly.  A cozy that didn't quite do the trick for me.  The second of the series with lots of questions at th end.  Will she remodel her kitchen?  will she give Ryan a chance?  will she??? 

Now I can't seem to settle and have started three paper books and seem to have struck if not gold at least silver with Lone Star / Ed Ifkovic on Kindle.  Not a western, it's Edna Ferber the author of Giant in Hollywood to look at what has been filmed in Texas for the movie.  Rock Hudson, Liz Taylor and James Dean.  Up to this point she's interacting with Jimmy.  The women as discussing his magnetic personality and how appealing he is to young and old women.

Julie, I really liked Time and Again.  It ws a long time ago, but wasn't there a sequel?  Whatever it was, I didn't like the 2nd one so much.

speaking of time travel anybody read the series by Kage Baker called The Company. The workers go back in time to try and locate seeds and cuttings from plants that are extinct in modern times. the first book is In the Garden of Iden. Apparently there really was a garden of Iden that belonged to a rich guy in England. Some of the history worked into the books is true.

Grey Lady    Author: Paul Kemprecos              I really liked this book.  Very enjoyable.

Survivors (Stranded, Bk 3)   Author: Christopher Tebbetts, Jeff Probst        This is the last book in the series.  I enjoyed all of the books even though they are under the Children's genre.

Bones Never Lie   Author: Kathy Reichs     Another good book by this author.

The Stranger  Author: Harlan Coben   Very good book, but the ending was very unexpected.

Re: Time And Again, there is a sequel called From Time TomTime, but I didn't like the original to want to read the sequel.not surprised it wasn't good.

im finished listening to After You by JoJo Moyes, the sequel to Me BeforecYoi. I liked it very much much, true life characters, people can be resilient 

finishing The Bookseller by Mark Pryor, a mystery set in Paris. Hugo is head of security for the embassy there. It's a first novel and a start of a series. Not something I would have chosen on my own, reading for a book club but I am quite enjoying it. Very interesting characters, great settlnjg and some good surprises.

not sure but I think Finney might be better known for Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I haven't read any of his books.
