I got a book today that looks almost brand new except one problem.  On the back cover I noticed the sender (or someone) has used scotch tape to tape up a long cut.  It measures 3 & 1/4" long.  From almost mid point of the book down to the very bottom.  They used the one piece of tape and it's holding fine, but inside I counted to about page 7 (counting from the back cover) where the pages are also cut... as you get further in the pages are less and less cut.  Does that make sense?  I'd be willing to bet the offender was a box cutter/utility knife because the cut is very clean, just sliced right through the back cover and the first few pages with cuts like I said appearing to the 7th page in.

I personally don't have a problem with it, I can still read the book.  But I don't think I could post this book back to the system.  I read on the help docs that tears couldn't be more than an inch, which this is but since the cover is taped does that still count?  Which is where I'm hung up.  I'd like to be able to repost and eventually get a credit back, and I am afraid to do that with this book.  I also feel bad for marking it RWAP, and possibly getting my credit back and still intending on reading it.

This will be my first RWAP.  What would you guys do if you received a book that was ok for your standards but you knew you wouldn't be able to post it back on PBS?

I would mark it RWAP. Tape or not, it's still a big tear and you can't repost it.

Taping a cut/tear does not return a book to postable.

Cover tears/cuts can be up to 1" and NO tears/cuts are allowed on text pages so this book is definitely not postable and you should mark it RWAP.

I always mark an unpostable book as RWAP so the system knows the problem. If I am OK with it, and would have taken the book if offered through the Book Bazaar, then I won't ask for the credit back. I almost always ask for the credit back on books that were obviously unpostable and still sent.

I would also mark this RWAP. A cover and several pages almost cut in half is obvious damage and would make me rage.

Yes, its RWAP.

I probably would not ask for my credit back, though, if I thought I could trade the book anyway in the Book Bazaar. That's just me, though.

Yes RWAP it.  If you can't post it based on the condition, then it should not have been posted in the first place.
