I had a book on wishlist and received it. At least I thought I received it. When I got the book it was a paperback version of the book and the ISBN didn't match at all. I marked the book--Wrong Book Received--I can't remember exactly what my choices were. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to mark it wrong book received or something else.

I did send a PM to the sender to let him/her know the book's ISBN didn't even match the version I was sent. I didn't have a problem reading the paperback version, but alas, the paperback version isn't the one that's wishlisted--although I'm not sure if I have the only copy of the paperback version in the system. I'm going to wait a bit to see if I get any response from the sender at all.

Barbara--

Sounds like you did the right thing -- mark it RWP, "Wrong Book".  From the Help Center:

The "official" problem options are:

  • Wrong Book
    • This includes inappropriate items such as ARCs or leaflets/pamphlets/booklets without ISBNs
    • This includes the wrong versions of books (ie, the ISBN, title, author or booktype of the book you received doesn't match the PBS listing of the book you requested)

If you wanted your credit back, you should request that explicitly as well.  Could that paperback version be an ARC?

Cheers,

Catt

No, I'm pretty sure it isn't an ARC. I think it was just the paperback version of the book. It's got a price sticker on it from HalfPrice Books.

Yep, you handled it exactly right. If the ISBN didn't match, even though the title/author did, they posted the wrong book. Hopefully they'll refund your credit for you. Doesn't matter if you have the only copy of the paperback version or not--they posted the wrong book. Period. I've had that happen a couple of times, too and it's very frustrating, especially when you have already read the paperback book and have the HC wishlisted because you really want ONLY the hardcover to add to your "keeper" shelf!

I had this a few weeks ago myself.  I wanted & ordered a first edition collectible and got a MMP re-release.  Didn't get my credit back - the sender said that it shouldn't make any difference because the "words were the same" & then ignored my responses after that.  I could have understood if the ISBN#s were the same, but they weren't.  It can be the difference between accepting a WL offer for a collectible hardcover version of The Hobbit and then receiving a paperback edition.  It's not what you ordered.  I know edition matters to some people and not at all to others, but I think that's where discretion on whether or not you ask for a credit refund should come into play.  As far as RWAPs are concerned, if the ISBNs don't match, it's RWAP - "wrong book".  End of story.

I think what ticks me off the most is that I wanted the credit that I'd get for sending out the book because it's wishlisted!

The ISBN's weren't even close. I can't help but wonder if the person deliberately used the other ISBN (for the wishlisted book) simply so they could send it out.

Kim and Barbara,

I would use the contact us link at the bottom of the page and let the powers that be know about it.  Since they DID send the wrong book and obviously did not even bother to follow the rules.  If you send them the copies of your PMs, they should be able to see what is going on.

At this point I'm waiting to hear back from the other member. I'm giving it a week and then will send another PM. I probably goofed up in my first PM because I didn't ask for a response or ask for my credit back in that first PM. However, I did expect some sort of reply but since it hasn't been a week, I'm going to wait the extra few days before I do anything else.

I did report mine.  I was sooo peeved.  I'm still not over it, I've just learned to pretend not to notice it:P  It's not tremendously hard, I (grudgingly) guess.  Out of the last 14 months here, this was one of 5 instances that I got an RWAP book, and this was the only one who didn't want to refund the credit.  In fact, I didn't even have to ask the others, they just offered.  Barabara, you know if you need a credit for anything WL, all you need to do is drop me an inbox.  I know you're good for it:P

I thought the same thing about mine, but I'm pretending not to notice that either:P
