I got a book today which was not what I wanted (not the sender's fault, I was careless when I ordered.) It was wishlisted so I immediately reposted it. Then I noticed a small stain on the cover. (It's a hardcover sans jacket.) I'm not sure what I should do now and couldn't find anything in the help files. The order hasn't been accepted yet. Should I cancel and just eat the credit?

Personally if it was me I'd send the person a private message and let them know about it.The reason I say this is some people much rather have the wish list book and just toss the book jacket.

I can't remember if the PM button is there or not if the request isn't accepted though.

Willa--

If the book has a stain, it is unpostable.  You can try writing the sender about getting your credit back, but it shouldn't be reposted.

Cheers,

Catt

Annoyingly, there is no way to cancel a book that's on hold. I suppose I can see the logic of that, but it's a real pain. I hope I don't have to go through the entire wish list before I can canel it.

Once someone accepts the book, then you can cancel the order, which will put that person back at the front of the WL line and take the book off your bookshelf so it won't be offered to anyone else. You can send a PM to them to explain why you cancelled the order if you like.

Put your account on vacation.  Then if it times out on the 1st person it won't go to the 2nd and you can delete it off your shelf.  Just put any WL books that you are #1 or 2 for on autorequest if you don't want to miss them.

another thing you could do is accept and PM the person (once it is accepted), let them know that it is unpostable (but posted by mistake) and offer them any other book off of your shelf for free.  Most likely they will be glad to get the book and a bonus book

Also, what is the stain?  is it something you could remove without damaging the hardcover?

On the bright side--if it does go through the WL you have cleared out a bunch of inactive wishers!

So the consensus is there's no way to recoup the original credit? I don't really want to hassle the person after marking the book received, unless there's an established procedure and it sounds like there isn't. I guess I'll just mark it off as a learning experience. :-)

Does somebody mind to explain what a hardcover sans jacket exactly is ? I never heard this expression.
