I mailed a book to a requestor in Hawaii on Aug. 25. It was delivered until 9/14/2010 at 11:33 am. I know this was quite a long delivery time but suspect it is not uncommon with media mail to Hawaii. I sent the receiver a polite note 5 days after delivery, asking if he did receive it as the Post Office said and requested that he please mark it received or let me know if the Post Office information was incorrect. Another 9 days later I've still not heard anything and the book has not been marked received. I have the receipt and the delivery confirmation number. Is there a procedure I can use to try to get the credit.
Thanks for your help, Katie

Katie, I'm sorry but, if you did not use PBS Delivery Confirmation unless the item is marked received you can't get the credit. Keep in mind that the receiver may not have actually received the book - like perhaps it was misdelivered; the receiver may not have frequent internet access; perhaps he is ill and can't get online or away from the internet like on vacation. Also, remember PBS is sending reminders to this individual also. How soon until the book is scheduled to go lost? Tammi were you using PBS DC or just postal DC....? You should contact the Team at this point. If the Team deams the member inactive, they may mark it received for the other member. Per the Help Center: If you sent the book with DC purchased elsewhere and it has been recorded as delivered by USPS but hasn't been marked received yet:
If your book does not arrive by the 26th day (the 35th day if the sender or requestor is outside the contiguous US) after you marked it mailed, it will be declared Lost in the Mail at PBS. This does not mean that the book is actually lost; it may simply be delayed en route. You can read more about Lost books in A book I sent is lost in the mail!. I mailed one out on the 8th, no DC, and I am pretty sure it should have arrived to its destination, though the receiving member has yet to mark it as such. I'm a bit worried b/c she did not accept the request (WL book) till it nearly timed out, so I don't think she's that much of an active member. I'm going to contact TPTB if it times out and if she does not respond to subsequent PM(s) to see if they can look into her activity, so maybe at least I can not lose a credit if they determine the account is basically inactive. I know most people say these mean nothing, but when the member has no books listed on their shelf and only a handful of WL books, most of them added nearly 3 years ago and only one added 6 months ago, that seems to me to suggest likely a not-active member. |

If the person has not logged into their account in 26 days, then you will likely get your credit back, as PBS can see this to be a fact. If she logged in to mark the book accepted, then she isn't an inactive member, just a slow responding member. But, if they've logged in during that 26 day period, you will not get your credit back. |
