I've not been disappointed by any of Jane Lindskold's books. The book raises questions about how humans classify "intelligence" in a species. This book is a good read.

Lindskold does it again--gets into the head of other-than-human beings and makes their differences seem perfectly logical and reasonable ... for them.
The title comes from a Rudyard Kipling poem:
"Feet that leave no mark
Eyes that see in the dark
Ears that can hear the winds in their lairs
And sharp, white teeth
These are the marks of our brothers . . ."
