I enjoyed it. Thomas comes back seemingly from the dead just in time to prevent his wife from committing bigamy. Turns out he was sold into slavery in northern Africa after being rescued by pirates when his ship was lost. Rose was heartbroken after hearing he was lost at sea. Their shocking reunion and the rebuilding of their marriage, including learning each others secrets, was one of the best parts of the story. But once they find their rhythm, the story loses steam as the mystery of who betrayed Thomas plays out. However, it does pick back up again when he arranges to rescue his fellow shipmates who were left behind. Lots of fascinating detail about slavery along the Barbary Coast. 3.5 stars.
