"....a prescription for effective teaching and a graphic indictment of what is wrong with much of American education today. More than just an account of one teacher's struggles and successes, it demonstrates a teaching technique that can be applied in every classroom and home."

"The first thing we are going to do here children, is an awful lot of believing in ourselves."

A fascinating, inspiring read. I read this book years ago and it never left me. I finally found a copy here at PBS! Marva Collins is one driven lady with a vision for what she wants to do and how to do it. She is one of my heros... I recommend this book highly for anyone interested in children's education.

This is one of those books that I believe every person who takes on the teaching of children should read. The passion and heart of this woman is absolutely inspiring. She ran up against small-minded people who weren't willing to do what needed to be done in order to educate - love, push, love, pull, love, lead, and love some more. In the face of opposition, she did it anyway.
