Mary Theresa Urbano is a United States author and expert in the fields of pediatrics and bioterrorism.

Urbano was first involved in community planning for the Swine Flu pandemic in the 1960s, where she was exposed to vaccination and quarantine initiatives. As a faculty member at the University of Miami School of Medicine, she experienced a large-scale disaster in 1992 with Hurricane Andrew. From 1999 to 2002 she was associate dean of the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and associate director of the International Coalition for Mass Casualty Education, which examined the public policy implications of a large-scale terror attack.

Responding to the lack of information available to the public on surviving a mass casualty event, Urbano wrote The Complete Bioterrorism Survival Guide. Survival in the first few days after an attack is all the more important, she says, because the government cannot be expected to do everything, and educating individuals is critical in this process.
